Travel in Borneo

Immigration & Visas Please note that visitors to Sarawak will be issued a pass separate to that of Peninsula Malaysia and Sabah. You will need to bring your passport with you for immigration clearance if you are non-Malaysian. Non-Sarawakian Malaysians will need to produce a Malaysian Identity Card or Passport.
Expect the unexpected……... Sometimes when travelling in the interior, things may not go like clockwork. There may be times when the experienced boatmen will hold the journey for an hour or two for the roaring river to subside, travelers may have to oblige with the local customs and join in the wedding celebrations or respect taboos following a death in the village. All these contribute to the unique experience of Borneo. Gaining knowledge of and observing local culture will make your trip all the more memorable.
Clothing Light, breatheable cotton T-shirts and slacks/shorts. When jungle trekking, bear in mind that you will be scraping against branches and high grasses, therefore shorts are best accompanied with thick, high socks or even better - use slacks. Along with boots for walking, bring along a pair of strong sandals for use when bathing in the streams, or general in-house use. Denim is not recommended as it stays damp for a long time.
Vaccinations Recommended. Please be advised by your family doctor well in advance before your arrival. Take along your favourite insect repellant. Bring along a customised, portable first-aid kit.
Insurance Travel insurance is strongly advised. There may be insurance companies in Malaysia that offer affordable, on-the-spot medical insurance including emergency evacuation and repatriation, subject to their terms and conditions.
